Atlantic Council of Canada Volunteer Internships

The Atlantic Council of Canada offers internship opportunities for young Canadians between the ages of 18 and 30. The goal of this program is to help students and recent graduates transition from post secondary education to productive work in the field of international affairs and international trade. Additionally, this program is designed to help Canadian youth move from part-time or underemployment to rewarding careers with an international focus.

Besides enhancing the research, public relations, project management, planning and organizational skills of participants, the internship program also provides excellent contacts with government, business communities and academic institutions in NATO and Partnership for Peace Countries. Unfortunately, recent funding cuts by the Canadian Government have created new challenges in providing interns with financial compensation. However the ACC continues to run its internship program on a volunteer basis. Internships are offered year-round and take place for a duration of 4-6 months.

Our next openings are for Summer 2010, starting June 1, application deadline is February 26, 2010.

For Fall 2010, the application deadline is April 30, 2010 and the start date is September 7, 2010.

There can be flexibility around the start dates, depending on the availability of the applicant.

National and International Academic Cooperative Internships

Some universities require students to complete full-term or part-time internships as part of their graduation requirements in graduate or undergraduate International Studies programs. Other universities while not requiring such experiences, will grant credit for them if agreed upon between the university and the student. Interested students should check with their universities if such programs are supported by them. The ACC has a limited number of unpaid co-op internship placements available for graduate and undergraduate students.

The next opening for a full-term placement is in September 2010. The application deadline can be flexible depending on the requirements of the applicant’s university.
